National Love My Feet Day: Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes on August 17th

With every step we take, our feet dutifully bear the weight of our bodies and propel us forward. Yet, more often than not, they remain the unsung heroes of our lives. August 17th marks National Love My Feet Day, an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the incredible things our feet do for us each day!

From supporting us during our morning walks to dancing the night away, our feet deserve some tender, loving care. Let’s explore the remarkable roles our feet play and offer tips on how to give them the pampering they deserve.

The Amazing Feet

Our feet are a marvel of engineering, consisting of 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. They provide a stable foundation for our bodies and enable us to stand, walk, run, and perform various physical activities with ease. The arches in our feet act as shock absorbers, reducing the impact on our joints as we move.

Consider the distance they cover in a lifetime. On average, a person takes around 7,500 to 8,000 steps each day, which adds up to over 100,000 miles in a lifetime—equivalent to walking around the world four times! Our feet are remarkable in their resilience, making it possible for us to explore the world and experience life to the fullest.

Giving Our Feet Some TLC

Given the immense workload our feet endure, it's crucial to show them some love and care. Here are some simple yet effective ways to pamper your feet at home:

Foot Soak

Treat your feet to a relaxing soak. Fill a basin with warm water and our Analgesic Bath Salts, or DIY your own foot soak with our Dead Sea Salts and essential oils of your choice. Soak your feet for 15-20 minutes to soothe tired muscles and reduce inflammation.

Foot Scrub

Exfoliate your feet using a gentle foot scrub. Gently massage the scrub onto your feet, paying attention to rough spots and calluses. Rinse off the scrub, revealing softer, smoother skin. For the feet, we love our Lemongrass Body Scrub. This creamy, gentle formula contains our proprietary Lemongrass Essential Oil blend which helps to clean the skin, protect it from the look and feel of infections, and to promote overall good skin health. The combination is specifically designed to care for the skin and nail areas of the hands and feet.

Moisturize

After a foot soak or scrub, apply a rich foot cream or lotion to keep your skin hydrated and prevent dryness and cracking. Our Lemongrass Mani-Pedi Cream soothes rough, dry skin, softens calluses, and reinforces the skin barrier. The non-greasy formula absorbs quickly, keeping skin hydrated all day. Prebiotics maintain the skin's microbiome balance, while powerful essential oils protect against skin conditions and irritations.

Nail Treatment

Nail treatment for your feet is of paramount importance as it contributes to overall foot health and hygiene. Regular nail care helps prevent painful conditions such as ingrown toenails, fungal infections, and nail deformities. Our Nail and Cuticle Elixir effectively hydrates, eliminating dry, flaky, and irritated skin. It also contains a combination of highly-targeted and potent natural oils that go to work on getting your skin and nails clear and healthy looking from a variety of irritations. Properly trimmed and maintained nails also reduce the risk of discomfort while walking and wearing shoes.

Foot Massage

Treat yourself to a foot massage to ease tension and increase blood flow. You can use your hands or a foot roller to apply gentle pressure to the soles and arches of your feet. Reflexology is also a good option. Reflexology is an alternative therapy that involves applying pressure to the feet with the help of your thumbs and fingers. There are more than 15,000 nerve endings in our feet alone, and by stimulating those nerve endings, we can help awaken certain areas of the body.

Stretching Exercises

Perform simple foot stretching exercises to improve flexibility and relieve tightness. Try toe curls, ankle circles, and toe points to keep your feet agile.

Wear Proper Footwear

Invest in comfortable, supportive shoes that fit well and provide adequate arch support. Avoid wearing high heels or ill-fitting shoes for extended periods.

Elevate Your Feet

Give your feet a break by elevating them when sitting or lying down. This helps reduce swelling and improves circulation.

On National Love My Feet Day, let's take a moment to express gratitude to our feet for their unwavering support and dedication. These incredible structures enable us to navigate life's journey, from our first steps to our most adventurous of pursuits. By showing some TLC to our feet regularly, we can ensure they continue to serve us faithfully for years to come.
