Blood orange is distinctive for the deep red color of the meat of its fruit. It is also known as the Maltese orange and has properties similar to Sweet Orange.
Recently it has been a favorite flavoring for cocktails, food and scenting body lotions and other skin care products.
Uses of Blood Orange Essential Oil- Combine this oil with your carrier oil of choice and massage it into your body for an uplifting and relaxing feeling.
- For a romantic blend, add 5 drops Blood Orange, 2 drops Vanilla Extract, 1 drop Jasmine absolute and 1 drop Vetiver in 1 oz of lotion or massage oil.
- Add a few drops of blood orange essential oil to a spray bottle of water and use it to repel insects or purify a work surface.
- Relaxing & soothing Bath Soak: 2 drops of Blood Orange, 1 drop of Geranium and 2 drops of Lavender, with 1 tablespoon of Jojoba oil and 1/2 cup of Dead Sea salts added to a full tub.
- For a natural deodorizer soak a cotton ball and place in a room for a refreshing uplifting scent.

History and BackgroundThe Blood Orange fruit originated in India (some say Vietnam) and was called na rangi in Sanskrit. The na rangi or naranja was translated as norange, and in English usage a norange was back-formed into the more acceptable an orange. Holistically it has been used to emotionally uplift, soothe nervousness and calming the feeling of anxiety.
