History and Background

Cajeput comes from an Indonesian word meaning "white wood". From the Myrtaceae family, Tea Tree and Cajeput are often confused with each other, but they are two distinct oils.

Cajeput contains higher concentrations of eucalyptol, limonene and alpha-terpineol. Tea tree contains more terpinen-4-ol and gamma-terpinene. In reality, Cajeput has properties similar to those found in Eucalyptus and Lemon.

Best known for its history as an antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral oil, Cajeput can be found in blends and applications concerning these issues. This oil is known to help coughs, laryngitis, bronchitis, and allergy sufferers feel better.

Local application of Cajeput is known to alleviate the feeling of aches and pains of arthritis and muscle cramping. With its purification properties, is often used in skin care.

Cajeput is a middle to top note. It well with the Pinacea (Pine, Fir, Spruce, Cedarwood and Balsam) and Labiatae Basil, Spearmint, Clary Sage, Hyssop, Lavender, Marjoram, Melissa, Mountain Savory, Oregano, Patchouli, Rosemary, Sage Spanish, Peppermint and Thyme.) families. Cajeput also blends well with its Myrtaceae (Allspice, Bay, Clove, Eucalyptus, Myrtle, Niaouli and Tea Tree) family members. It does not blend well with floral or citrus oils.
