Essential Oil Spotlight: Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is one of the most well-known essential oils, and for good reason. The list of benefits of tea tree oil are vast and its history is just as interesting.

Native to Australia, Aborigines would use crushed leaves of the tea tree as a poultice for infected wounds and skin problems. Soon, British explorer Captain James Cook caught wind of this novel treatment after reaching the eastern coastline of Australia in 1770.

He brought the oil back with him to Europe but it wasn’t until after World War I that people began to study the tea tree seriously. Tea Tree is now the most scientifically studied essential oil and is a mainstay in holistic practices and everyday use.
