History and Background

Pine has a long history. The ancient Egyptians employed the kernels from the pine cone in cooking. Native Americans added Pine needles to the stuffing of mattresses to repel lice and fleas.

Some violinists use the resin of pine to prepare their bow. Turpentine is also made from this versatile plant. Pine is used extensively in the perfume industry. And, of course, the pine tree gives us wood for everything from furniture to home building.
