November is Men's Health Awareness Month

November is Men’s Health Awareness Month – a time to raise awareness about men’s health such as prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. According to The Movember Foundation, men die on average 5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.

The Movember Foundation's goal is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25% by 2030. They have funded more than 1,200 projects around the world supporting research and changing the way health services reach men.

In an effort to honor and raise awareness and support men’s health causes, we are donating $1 for every Sir Vitál order in November to The Movember Foundation.

Five Ways to Take Your Health into Your Own Hands

The Movember Foundation has compiled a list of five things you can do to take your health into your own hands. We’re not talking simply about physical health, either, but mental health as well.

Stay In Regular Contact With Loved Ones

Don’t forget to prioritize your relationships with friends and family. Not only is it beneficial to you to maintain those connections, but checking in with others can truly be life-saving. Making the effort to stay in touch is important for everyone’s mental health.

Move

One of the best things you can do to remain healthy is to maintain an active lifestyle. Exercising looks different for everyone, so find something that excites you. It can be as simple as squeezing in a quick gym session, a walk around the block, or a game of golf. Every little bit counts!

Talk About the Great Things in Life

Life is full of ups and downs, but focusing on the positives and acknowledging and talking about the negatives can help. It’s also important to talk with others about them- chances are, they’re going through something similar.

Knowledge is Power

Have you ever sat in a doctor’s office, attempted to fill out your medical history, and realized there’s a whole lot you aren’t sure of? Knowing your family's medical history is one of the best ways to understand your own health. This medical history affects your risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and many other diseases. This goes for relatives that are living, and those who are no longer with us.

If You Notice Something is Wrong, Take Action

You know your body better than anyone, especially if you’re performing regular checks. If you notice something doesn’t feel right, check in with your physician. Early detection can help save your life!
