History and Background

In 1461, the Sultan of Egypt, Mlech Elmazda, sent the Doge of Venice a gift of two Persian carpets. With those carpets were 30 rotoli (which is about 47 pounds) of Benzoin.

A Portuguese navigator named Barboza introduced Benzoin to Europe. Nostradamas published recipes with Benzoin in his 1556 book. In 1623, the British set up a factory in Siam to produce Benzoin. First known in English in the 16th century, it was called Benjoin.

This ancient oil was first used as an offering to the Gods. Originating in Laos and Vietnam, it can also be found in Malaysia, Java and Sumatra. The Javanese as well as the Greeks and Romans used Benzoin as an incense because of its powerful fixative properties.

In esoteric circles, Benzoin balances all chakras and a balm for the heart. Good for use in grief to create a positive process.
