Medicine, hot/dry action, water and metal element, powerful
yang tonic, tonifies
Heart yang.
Contraindications: Skin irritant.
Do not apply neat to skin. High blood pressure. Contains
large amounts of toxic phenols. Do not use on children under
2 years, hypersensitive, diseased or damaged skin.
Blending: Blends well Peppermint, rosemary, lavender, tea tree,
cypress. Up to 1% in blends.
Chemical Components: Thymol and
carvacrol (up to 60%), cymene, terpinene, camphene, borneol,
linalol. Depending on source, can also contain geraniol,
citral and thuyanol. thymol and carvacrol are warming and
active, the thuyanol type are penetrating and antiviral; the
linalol or citral are sweet-scented and non-irritating.
Characteristics: Red brown or
orange color. Hot, spicy, strongly aromatic.
Extraction: Water or steam
distillation from fresh or partially dried leaves and
flowering tops.
