Botanical Name: commiphora myrrha

Allopathic uses:
Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, balsamic,
expectorant, anti-catarrhal, fungicidal, revitalizing,
sedative, digestive stimulant, uterine tonic and regulator,
vulnerary.
Indications: Cuts, wounds, mouth
or throat conditions, wrinkles, bronchitis, asthma, coughs,
cystitis, leucorrhea, ringworm, eczema, psoriasis, colds,
flu, anxiety, nervous tension, stress-related conditions.
Holistic uses: In Chinese
medicine, fire element. Fortifies etheric energy or body
aura. Deepens meditation. Affects base chakra, cools
emotions. Vibrates in color blue to indigo and is useful for
problems of the throat region. Calming, mood uplifting,
promotes restful sleep.
Contraindications: Not to be used
during pregnancy.
Blending: Good fixative, gives depth to blend, up to 5% in blends.
Blends well with benzoin, cistus, cypress, frankincense,
geranium, juniper, lavender, mandarin, patchouli, pine,
sandalwood, thyme, all mints.
Chemical Components: Acids
(acetic, formic, myrrholic, palmitic, triterpnic), alcohols,
aldehydes (cinnamic, cuminic), sugars (arabinose, galactose),
phenols (eugenol, m-cresol), resins and terpenes (cadinene
dipentene, limonene, pinene).
Characteristics: Pale yellow to
amber color, thick, sticky consistency. Balsamic, pleasant,
smoky, hot, musky, camphor-like, incense-like aroma.
Extraction: Steam distillation of
