Marjoram Spanish

Botanical Name: Thymus mastichina

 

Anatomical areas: Peripheral nervous system, digestive, skin and cortex of organs.

 

Allopathic uses: Digestive, arterial vaso-dilator, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, sedative, antifungal, antibacterial.

 

Indications: Migraines, sore muscles, digestive spasms, flatulence, respiratory distress, insomnia, irritability, over-active sex drive.

 

Holistic uses: In Chinese medicine, warm/dry energy, earth/fire element, tonfies and circulates Qi, clears cold phlegm and calms mind, restores Spleen-pancreas Qi to balance. Calms obsessive thinking, promotes self-nurturing, and helps accept deep loss and grief. Effective in balancing the energy currents flowing. Euphoric and effective on the 3rd and 4th chakras.

 

Contraindications: Non-toxic, non-irritant. Do not use during pregnancy.

 

Blending: Middle to top note. Blends well with lavender, rosemary, bergamot, chamomile, cypress, cedarwood, tea tree and eucalyptus.

 

Chemical Components: Terpinenes, terpineol, sabinenes, linalol (50%), carvacrol, linalyl acetate, ocimene, cadinene, geranyl acetate, citral, eugenol.

 

Characteristics: Pale yellow or amber color. Fresh, herbaceous, warm, camphoraceous, sweet, slightly woody.

 

Extraction: Steam distillation of dried flowering herbs.
