Allopathic uses:
High grade mucolytic
(highest grade), anti-inflammatory, hypothermic, sedative,
cardio-regulative, diuretic and depurative.
Indications:
Hardened sinus mucus,
coughs, bronchitis, breathing problems, skin rashes, herpes
and skin eruptions, itching.
Holistic uses:
Affinity for the heart
chakra. Helpful to the “faint-hearted”, those who find it
difficult to experience love or to express it, those who are
afraid to use their skills or gifts, to allow their inner
self to be.
Contraindications:
Neuro-toxic, non-irritant.
Blending:
Middle note. Blends well
with cananga, cinnamon, labdanum, lavender, mimosa,
frankincense, orris, tuberose, violet, cedarwood, patchouli,
sandalwood, cypress, bergamot and oriental fragrances.
Chemical Components:
Mainly sesquiterpene
lactones, including alantolactone (helenine), isolactone,
dihydroisolantolactone, dihydralantolactone, alantic acid,
azulene, and bornyl acetate.
Characteristics:
Brilliant green to
blue-green in color. Dry, soft, woody.
Extraction:
Steam distillation from
dried roots and rhizomes and sometimes the whole plant.
