Botanical Name: Cistus
ladaniferus, aka Labdanum, Rock Rose
Anatomical areas: Skin,
respiratory system, immune system, urinary tract, upper
brain.
Allopathic uses: Antimicrobial,
antiseptic, antitussive, astringent, balsamic, emmenagogue,
expectorant, tonic.
Indications: Aged skin ,wrinkles,
boils, coughs, bronchitis, rhinitis, colds, urinary tract
infections.
Holistic uses: Affects upper
brain. Quieting tonic for nerves, elevates emotions during
meditation. Good for hyperactivity, deep relaxation,
centering. Encourages communication, brings out feelings.
Useful in meditation. Affinity for crown, 3rd charka and 6th
charka.
Contraindications: Avoid during
pregnancy.
Blending: Base note. Blends well
with clary sage, pine, juniper, bergamot, cypress, vetiver,
patchouli, olibanum, chamomile maroc, frankincense,
sandalwood, rose, benzoin, myrrh, lavender. Best fixative.
Gives natural musk note to blends. Most potent oil from
Crete.
Chemical Components: Pinenes
(camphene, sabinene, myrcene, phellandrene, limonene,
cymene), alcohols (cineol, borneol, nerol, geraniol) and
ketones (fenchone).
Characteristics: Dark yellow to
amber color. Thick, viscous consistency. Warm, sweet,
balsamic, musky, leathery, deep aroma.
Extraction: Steam distillation
of crude gum.
