Sandalwood is pale yellow, to greenish or brown in color, with a viscous consistency. Sandalwood has a deep, woody, balsamic, sweet, and slightly musky aroma. The oil is extracted by steam or water distillation from roots and heartwood, powdered and dried. Sandalwood has anitseptic, diuretic, astringent, anti-spasmodic, and expectorant properties. Sandalwood has been used to treat: muscle spasms, inflammations, infections, water retention, and bronchitis.
