Aloe (also written Aloë) is a genus containing about four hundred species of flowering plants. It is a stemless or very short-stemmed plant growing to 80-100 cm tall, spreading by offsets and root sprouts. The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green, with a serrated edge. It's yellow flowers are produced on a spike.
Aloe is often used topically to treat skin conditions such as burns and eczema. It is alleged that sap from Aloe eases pain and reduces inflammation.
Aloe is often added to products such as moisturizers, lathers, sunscreens, lotions and is useful for dry skin conditions, especially eczema and sensitive facial skin and for treating infections.
